History of the department

The course of cardiac surgery was organized in May 2010 at the Center for Continuing Education 1 as part of the Department of “Surgery” with the courses of “Cardiac Surgery, Anesthesiology, Reanimatology and Ultrasound Diagnostics”. By the decision of the Academic Council of KazNMU named after S.D. Asfendiyarov in 2013 the course was transformed into the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery.

The first head of the department was Yegemberdiyev Tolegen – Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor – surgeon of the highest qualification category in cardiovascular surgery. More than 40 years of scientific and practical activity. For a long period of time T. Yegemberdiyev was a responsible executor and head of all-union and republican scientific themes devoted to actual problems of cardiovascular surgery. He took an active part in the development and implementation of new types of reconstructive and restorative surgeries on the heart, aorta, main arteries and veins. Since 1979 bioprostheses of new type of vessels proposed by T. Yegemberdiyev have been widely used in surgical treatment of diseases of aorta and main arteries, as well as in allotransplantation of kidneys, not only in the Republic of Kazakhstan, but also abroad. Currently, the head of the department is Kodasbaev Almat, candidate of medical sciences, professor. The teaching staff includes 2 professors, 3 associate professors, 4 assistants of the department.
