History of the department

  • The Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology with Endoscopy course was established in 2012 on the basis of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of the Research Institute of Cardiology and Internal Diseases of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
  • By order of the Rector dated September 2nd, 2019, the Department of Gastroenterology became part of the Faculty of Internship and Residency of the S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University.

The Interna Clinic was opened in November 2022 and is the clinical base of the Department of Gastroenterology of the S.D. Asfendiyarov KazNMU. The clinic is staffed by employees of various academic Departments of the university, namely, teachers from the Departments of Visual Diagnostics, Infectious and Tropical Diseases, Cardiology, etc.

The clinic has two main divisions: an outpatient unit and an inpatient unit. The inpatient unit provides specialized medical care to patients with gastroenterological, endocrinological, rheumatological, cardiological, therapeutic, and neurological conditions. The day hospital provides care for patients with rheumatological and inflammatory bowel diseases, using gene-engineered biological drugs.

  • The clinic is equipped with modern, expert-grade equipment: an endoscopic stand, ultrasound equipment, a FIBROSCAN device for transient liver elastography, ECG, and a 24-hour blood pressure and ECG monitor. Unique diagnostic procedures are performed, such as ultrasound of the joints, ultrasound of the intestines, transient liver elastography, capsule endoscopy, and liver biopsy. Therapeutic procedures: endoscopic ligation of varicose veins of the esophagus, resection of formations in the submucosal layer, dissection, argon plasma coagulation, endoscopic hemostasis
  • The clinic regularly hosts educational events: lectures, seminars, advanced training courses for doctors, master-classes with foreign colleagues, and round tables.
