The Non-Commercial Joint-Stock Company “Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov” completed a visit by the IAAR external expert commission as part of the International Specialized Accreditation of Residency Educational Programs

As part of the International Specialized Accreditation of 20 residency educational programs at the Non-Commercial Joint-Stock Company NCJSC “Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov,” the visit of the External Expert Commission of the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (NAAR/IAAR) was successfully completed. The visit took place from February 16 to 18, 2026.

The work of the External Expert Commission was aimed at a comprehensive evaluation of the implementation of residency educational programs and the conditions of clinical training for residents. It included meetings with the university leadership and heads of structural units, as well as discussions with department chairs, educational program coordinators, and faculty members. During the visit, surveys of faculty and residents were conducted, clinical training sites, the simulation center, and university infrastructure facilities were visited, and meetings were held with graduates and employers.

The purpose of the visit was to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the implementation of residency educational programs and the conditions for clinical training of residents. During the visit, the External Expert Panel:

  • Held meetings with the University leadership and heads of structural units;
  • Conducted interviews with department chairs, educational program coordinators, and faculty members;
  • Carried out surveys among faculty and residents;
  • Visited clinical training sites, the simulation center, and university infrastructure facilities;
  • Met with graduates and employers.

Following the visit, the experts highlighted several strengths of the University in implementing the accredited educational programs, including:

  • A strong academic staff capacity ensuring the required level of professional expertise and academic continuity in delivering educational programs;
  • Availability and effective use of clinical bases, including university clinics and partner medical organizations, providing appropriate conditions for practical training of residents;
  • A well-established position of the University in the national and international educational space in the field of medical education.

The results of the External Expert Panel’s visit will be used to further improve residency educational programs, enhance internal quality assurance mechanisms, and strengthen the alignment of residents’ clinical training with modern healthcare system requirements and international standards of medical education.
